The hike to Talaia de Son Jaumell in northeast Mallorca starts at Cala Torta, which can be reached via Artá. Cala Torta is a picturesque bay that is ideal for a start in spring or late autumn. From the car park, a path leads to the sandy beach, from which a rocky coastal path, marked with paint and stone men, leads to Cala Mesquida, a quiet holiday resort. The trail runs over a 500 m long wooden walkway through protected sand dunes, where you can admire natural wonders such as sea thistle and Phoenician juniper. The climb to the ridge begins, and the destination, the Talaia de Son Jaumell, is already visible from afar. A narrow, marked trail leads to the dilapidated pirate watchtower at 273 m above sea level, from which you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of Cala Agulla, Cala Mesquida, the mountains of the Penísula de Llevant and, if the view is clear, of Menorca. The way back is over the mountain ridge, down a grassy slope into the pine forest and on in steep serpentines to a wide path that connects Cala Mesquida with Cala Agulla. The trail leads along the foot of the rocky “Eagle Mountain” and through sandy forest trails back to Cala Torta. There is only a place to stop off at Cala Mesquida, so it is recommended to bring a picnic.
