Near Felanitx is Sant Salvador, a former monastery that now houses a hotel and restaurant. The mountain is unmistakable and stands out from the mostly flat landscape. The hike starts 1.5 km outside Felanitx on the road to Es Carritxo. The trail is barely marked, so it is recommended to bring a hiking map or load the GPX data. A narrow, partly steep path leads through the forest up the mountain. The route is easy even for inexperienced people if enough breaks are planned. Out of nowhere, we are standing in front of the big stone cross. From now on, it is only a short distance on the pilgrimage route to the summit. The destination Santuari de Sant Salvador is 509 m above sea level. According to tradition, in the first half of the 14th century, the hermit Romeo de Burguera lived on the mountain in a cave, the Sa Cova de s'Ermità. The origins of the sanctuary and the pilgrimage church date back to 1348. The monastery complex, the monastery church and the oversized statue of Jesus on a rocky outcrop are worth seeing. Before descending, you can eat at the restaurant. The way back leads around Klosterberg and offers new views again and again. A hike that shows the beauty of the island from another side.
